Bank of America Grant Will Provide Funding to Support First Step Inn Homeless Shelter

Fall River, MA – July 5, 2019 — Bank of America has awarded $10,000 to Steppingstone Incorporated’s First Step Inn, which provides safe shelter and daily nutritious meal to homeless men and women in Fall River, combined with a one-step, comprehensive system designed to help homeless guests escape the cycle of homelessness.

“In order to get on the path to economic mobility, individuals need to ensure that their basic needs are being met. This includes having a safe and stable place to call home, and a supportive network enabling people to access education and workforce opportunities.” said Miceal Chamberlain, Bank of America Massachusetts President. “Steppingstone’s First Step Inn is a valued partner and we are honored to support their work helping homeless men and women in Fall River.”

This funding is crucial to the First Step Inn’s ability to meet the needs of the larger number of guests they will serve when cold weather arrives later this year. Homelessness is prevalent more than ever in the Fall River area and the shelter intends to be prepared for those seeking refuge from the cold.

In addition to the beds available, the First Step Inn has a warming center for individuals to come in out of the elements and get something to eat and drink. Hot soup, coffee and pastries are available throughout the day and staff members are on-site to provide information and offer support services.

Rosa Medeiros, Steppingstone’s Director of Programming for Homeless Services said the BoA grant is greatly needed.

“Bank of America is such a community focused bank that will face community issues such as homelessness with compassion, understanding and support. The $10,000 awarded to us will make a huge impact on the services we will provide at the First Step Inn this winter. The winter is always challenging and there are so many in need of shelter, food, and support services. Each winter it seems colder with more snow storms and there are more and more individuals on our streets needing help. Thank you Bank of America for your generosity,” Ms. Medeiros said.
